EBay site is established. 09/12/05 Bay Area Games is asked to host a Fundraiser event for Hurricane Katrina relief. We accept! HURRICANE KATRINA FUNDRAISER U-9 HCU Crew and U-10 HCU Red Runners Soccer teams. The "brainchildren" for the Katrina Fundraiser idea. Over $1100 was raised to help Gloster Elementary School in Gloster, Mississippi. 12/01/05 Our Judges and numerous local teams (most notably Team Alpha - yellow shirts below) and individuals representing Tampa traveled in the 3rd and 4th quarter of this year to judge or participate in tournaments in Atlanta, Chicago, and Austin, TX. 12/31/05 As 2005 closed, we hosted a Birthday Party event, additional Regional and Pre-Release events, and established ourselves as one of Tampa's premier gaming event companies. 2006 1st Quarter: To say that we "were everywhere" would be an understatement. Hosted events on Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday throughout the year. Added events at Wonder Water Card Stores. Actively marketed our tokens and mats online...along with our Version 1 Egyptian Themed Mat, we introduced our Version 2 Japanese Themed Mat with much success! Traveled to Durham, NC to judge and play in their Shonen Jump Event. Unity Entertainment made us the primary vendor to host their tournaments in the Tampa Bay Area. Hosted a Pre-Release in February at the Tampa Convention Center with over 700+ players in attendance for that weekend!!!! WOW! 2nd Quarter: April 1st at Orlando Regionals, April 8th at Ft. Lauderdale Regionals, April 22nd at Naples Regionals...okay we continued to be busy. Travel especially became part of our routine as we marketed our products, teams, players, and TAMPA to other cities and states. The culmination of FUN this quarter was going to San Francisco to NATIONALS!!! Yugioh at it's BEST! 3rd Quarter: We were invited to run the Mall Tour event in Pinellas County. We continued our travels with Austin, TX an exciting event where we made several good contacts for business and friends as well. And ahhhh...back to school, back to business! 4th Quarter: On behalf of Unity Entertainment, we hosted events at several new locations continuing into 2007. These included exciting events at the Egyptian Pavilion (Ala Carte Center), USF Sun Dome, and the Manatee County Convention Center. 2007 THE YEAR IN REVIEW: A new game on the block, Naruto, got some attention for half the year and we hosted events for this as well. The growth of the game in prior years has slowed but we maintain a large number of "regulars" visiting MOSI weekly AND a growing group (yes I said GROWING) for Friday nights at Brandon Sports Cards. Status quo was at least maintained and the year can be generally said to have been a continuation of fun and entertainment that we hope continues for a long time to come. Parting note for 2007: Special thanks and utmost appreciation must be given to David Sargent and his family for their abundant support of the game over these years without which I am certain Yu-Gi-Oh! in Tampa would not be the success it is today. David has left Bay Area Games effective December 2007 and will be sorely missed. I'm sure, however, that we will see him playing in an event or two in 2008 as the enjoyment for the game will not be lost easily for him. To David: Thanks for ALL you've done! God bless! 2008 Okay, I know I'm going to get some slack for writing the least about this year. BUT actually this was probably one of our BEST years. We just didn't do all the travel stuff, hardly judged outside of our own events, only concentrated on Yugioh, and well....so everyone had a blast and WOW the year has flown! Considering the games ups and downs, for us to be hosting over 50 to 60 kids weekly in events here in Tampa still is amazing. We did conclude the year in December with the closure of the old Brandon Sports Card Store which morphed into GameTime Sports Cards newly located in better digs right next to the AMC Theater. So Fridays just got an upgrade. Then our final game on 01/05/09 at MOSI occurred bringing to conclusion a fantastic 4-year run there BUT not without another "upgrade" to the Comfort Inn at Busch Boulevard. So we can literally say we face fresh beginnings in 2009 and we ARE looking forward to an exciting year ahead as the game of Yugioh just keeps on keeping on! |
